Green Beans with Caramelized Onions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Rinse green beans in colander and trim ends.
3. Heat olive oil in large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
4. Drain onions and pat dry; add to skillet and sauté for 5 minutes.
5. Add sugar, half of the salt and sauté for 15 more minutes, or until onions are golden brown, stirring occasionally.
6. Meanwhile, in another pan, heat remaining oil over medium-high heat and add beans; sauté for 8 minutes.
7. Use tongs to turn while cooking; add onions, remaining salt then pepper, continue to cook until heated through, about 5 minutes.
8 Spread almonds over nonstick cookie sheet and bake until lightly colored, approximately 5 to 7 minutes, tossing occasionally.
9. Remove from oven and let cool. Sprinkle on top of green beans when served.
